Careers Leader
We are proud of our careers provision at Wood Green Academy and preparation for employment is an integral part of everything we do. We aim to prepare our students to go on to further or higher education or skilled employment and enable them to make a significant contribution to society.
We do everything we can to ensure WGA students develop these skills and attributes so that they get ahead in the workplace.
Summary of our Careers Programme
Wood Green Academy’s careers programme is designed to support students at every stage of their academic journey, helping them explore career options, develop essential employability skills, and make informed decisions about their future. Our programme includes:
Career Guidance and Support: Personalised one-on-one career advice sessions with Sandwell Connexions for students in year 11 & year 12 to explore pathways such as Further Education, Higher Education, Apprenticeships, or direct employment.
Workshops and Events: A range of workshops, career fairs, and employer talks designed to expose students to different industries and professions.
Work Experience: Opportunities for students in year 10 and year 12 to participate in work placements to gain practical insights and experience in their chosen fields.
Access to Information about our careers programme
Pupils can access the careers programme through their form tutors, our website, and the dedicated careers leader.
Parents are encouraged to attend our careers events and stay informed via the careers section of our school website, newsletters, and parent information evenings.
Teachers are provided with resources and training to integrate career-related learning into the curriculum, and can collaborate with the careers team for additional support.
Employers looking to offer work placements, attend career events, or partner with the school. they can contact the careers office directly through the our website.
We believe in a collaborative approach that involves all stakeholders to ensure the best possible career outcomes for our students.

The Gatsby Benchmarks
As well as a wide range of events throughout the year, including university visits, talks from our ever growing alumni of ex-students, visiting speakers, off site employer visits, Mock Interview events and, as part of the new government careers strategy ‘The Gatsby Benchmarks’ were developed as a framework for all schools to improve their careers provision. At Wood Green Academy we are working hard to embed the benchmarks into the school curriculum.
The 8 benchmarks broken down simply are:

Labour Market Information
Labour Market Information (LMI) is vital in ensuring students receive careers advice and guidance that reflects an understanding of what jobs are available in the local area. LMI provides valuable insights into the local area’s population demographics, employment trends, and both local and national job prospects.
