Maths & Computing

As a Mathematics & Computing College we are continuing to raise standards of achievement and develop further interest in the specialist subjects across the whole ability range.

We are continuing to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the specialism and develop innovative approaches to the teaching and learning. The additional Specialism allows us to investigate the best ways in which to teach both Mathematics and ICT in school to help us to ensure that every child leaves school with a good qualification in these two key subject areas.

YEL@ (Young e-Leaders Award) and MYLA (Mathematics Young Leaders Award). These have been designed at Wood Green to help develop pupils’ leadership skills through ICT and Mathematics. There are also opportunities to be supported or support other pupils with Maths mentoring. A range of video podcasts have been created to help pupils in Computing and Mathematics. Maths games and competitions have been developed, and Activ-Expression voting consoles are used in lessons enabling all pupils to fully participate.

We are continuing to provide pupils with a range of enrichment activities throughout the year to enthuse and inspire pupils in this Specialism area in order to raise our whole school levels of achievement. We are continuing to support schools nationally as well as strengthening our links with local primary, secondary further education establishments.

We are developing courses in ICT and Mathematics for members of our community. We are also encouraging and supporting parents and members of the local community by giving them the opportunity to get involved in activities relating to our Specialism.
