Step Up 4 Life Programme (SU4L)

Our PSHE education programme is developmental, taking into consideration the changing needs of students as they grow. The SU4L Programme provides progressive, step-by-step learning, with topics covered in a logical order and a planned sequenced approach to activities matched to age, stage and maturity which starts ‘where students are’. Our SU4L programme has the UNCRC (United Nations Children’s Rights Charter) at its heart. The curriculum ensures that pupils rights are considered so that they can become effective participants of the wider community once they leave Wood Green Academy.

The SU4L Programme is tailored to meet the needs of our students ensuring they are equipped with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions. The programme is based on the PSHE Association recommended Programmes of Study for PSHE which is endorsed by the DfE. It also takes into account statutory guidance for compulsory Health Education, Relationship and Sex Education in 2020.

Four core themes dominate the programme across each year group:

  1. Health and Well Being 4 Life
  2. Citizenship 4 Life
  3. Preparing 4 Life in the Wider World
  4. Safety First 4 Life

The Step Up4 Life Programme is our main vehicle for the delivery of PSHE/Citizenship/SMSC/RSE and aims to prepare pupils for their future adult life.
