Head of Biology

Main Pay Range – Upper Pay range + TLR 2b (£5,351)

Start:               September 2024

Contract:         Permanent

We are seeking to appoint a passionate, well-qualified Head of Biology to provide stimulating, dynamic and effective leadership for this core area of our school. The successful candidate will encourage initiative and innovation, further develop a curriculum that fosters a love of the subject as well as achieve high level student outcomes through enthusiasm and expertise.

We are an over-subscribed school and consistently achieve some of the highest results in Sandwell. In our most recent Ofsted of February 2020 the school was judged to be good with outstanding features. We are extremely proud of being one of few secondary schools in the country to have been graded as outstanding for behaviour and attitudes under the new Ofsted framework. We have an excellent location being less than 15 miles from the centre of Birmingham whilst having excellent national links via both the M5 and the M6.

The successful candidate will lead a well-established team and will be highly motivated about providing all students with the very best educational opportunities and believe in the importance of excellent teaching in Biology to inspire students.

The Science department is led by the Head of Science, the Head of Physics, the Head of Chemistry, and a Leader of KS3 Science. Furthermore, the Department has great experience in successfully mentoring both ITT trainees and ECTs.

In return, the successful candidate can expect to work with enthusiastic and well-behaved students who have a genuine desire to learn, to work with colleagues who are friendly and supportive, and to be part of a school which values its staff and offers ample opportunities for professional development and advancement.
