As we move into the winter months, flu cases are rising across the Black Country. Children are particularly vulnerable to catching flu and can easily pass it on to classmates, siblings and more vulnerable family members.
To help keep our school community healthy, parents and carers are encouraged to complete the school flu vaccination consent form if they have not already done so.
The flu vaccine offered in schools is free, safe and effective. It is usually given as a quick nasal spray and helps protect children throughout the winter. For families who prefer it, a porcine free alternative is also available.
Vaccinating your child does more than protect them. It helps reduce the spread of flu in school, limits absences due to illness and protects grandparents and others who may be at higher risk of serious complications.
The consent form is completed online and only takes a few minutes.
A local GP, Dr Mo Mandiratta, explains, “Flu can be serious, particularly for younger children. The nasal flu vaccine offered in schools provides the best protection as winter approaches. Taking a few minutes to complete the consent form can help keep families and communities healthy.”
