We are thrilled to announce that Wood Green Academy has been honoured with the prestigious John Thomson Secondary Music School of the Year award for 2023/2024.
This award is named in memory of John Thomson, who passed away in 2021. John served as the head of Sandwell Music Service for five years and was a staunch advocate for schools that place music at the heart of their curriculum. In his honour, this award was established to recognize schools that excel in music education.
Wood Green Academy has been chosen for this accolade due to our commitment to music education, the wide range of opportunities we offer our students, the strong sense of community within our music department, and our dedication to making music accessible to all students, regardless of their background, ability, or experience. We take pride in offering a broad array of instruments for our students to learn, encouraging participation in school ensembles, and promoting involvement in SIPS ensembles.
We also celebrate the achievements of our former music students, who have gone on to have successful careers in music, showcasing the lasting impact of our music program.
Our partnership with Sandwell Music Service has always been fruitful, with their staff consistently reporting impressive progress from our students and feeling valued within our department and the wider school community.
