The OCR Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification Cambridge Advanced National in Mental Health: Individuals & Society is for students aged 16-19 years old. It will develop knowledge, understanding and skills that will help prepare you for progression to undergraduate study and are relevant to mental health and wellbeing, within the broader health and social care sector

Course Overview

You’ll also understand how tools can be used to monitor wellbeing, understand how attitudes to mental health have changed over time, and consider the impact of social media and society on individuals. By studying this qualification, you’ll gain valuable insights and practical skills to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

Entry Requirements

Sixth Form Entry Criteria: 

A minimum of 5 9-5 GCSE grades, which must include a grade 5 or above in either English Language or English Literature. 

 
Special Entry Requirements:
  • – OCR Cambridge Technical in Health and Social Care Level 2 Merit or above if studied.
  • – Grade 4+ in English

Level 3 AAQ Cambridge Advanced National in mental health; Individuals and society

F400 Fundamentals of mental health and the individual

F401 Mental health, wellbeing and society

 

Mandatory Coursework topics

F402 Supporting and promoting mental health and well being in organisations

F403 Community based support for mental health and wellbeing

 

Optional coursework topics (you will study one of these)

F404 supporting mental health and well-being with physical activity

F405 supporting mental health and well-being with outdoor and creative activities

 

Course structure

One external exam and two pieces of coursework in year 12

One external exam and one pieces of coursework in year 13

Progression Route

Studying the AAQ Mental Health: Individuals and Society can open a range of progression routes for students, depending on their interests and career goals. It provides a strong foundation in understanding mental health issues, societal influences, and support strategies, which can lead to further study in areas such as psychology, health and social care, counselling, or sociology at a higher level. Students may also progress into vocational training or apprenticeships in roles related to mental health support, social work, youth work, or community care. In addition, the qualification develops transferable skills such as communication, empathy, research, and critical thinking, which are valuable for both further education and employment in sectors that prioritise wellbeing and social support.
