We are proud to be a Picture News Advocate School, recognising our commitment to helping pupils understand and engage with the world around them.
Picture News is an award-winning educational resource that brings current events and real-world issues into the classroom in an age-appropriate, balanced and engaging way. It helps children explore topics they may see in the news while developing important skills such as critical thinking, discussion, empathy and respectful debate.
News stories and global events can often raise questions for young people. Picture News supports us in explaining these topics sensitively and appropriately, using child-friendly materials that encourage curiosity and understanding. Through weekly discussions, pupils are given opportunities to share their views, consider different perspectives and develop their confidence in expressing informed opinions.
As an Advocate School, we value the role Picture News plays in our Personal Development curriculum. It helps us foster informed, thoughtful and responsible young citizens by connecting learning to the wider world and giving every pupil a voice in discussions about issues that matter.
Our aim is to help pupils make sense of the world around them, encouraging them to become curious, reflective and active members of their communities.
