Spring is in full swing and there’s a fantastic range of events and activities happening across Sandwell this month. Whether you’re looking to get active, try something creative, connect with others or access support, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what’s coming up.
Activities at Friar Park Millennium Centre
The Friar Park Millennium Centre is offering a wide variety of weekly and one off activities for all ages and interests. From fitness to crafts, there’s plenty to get involved in. Every Wednesday between 10am and 1pm, the popular Knit and Natter session brings together anyone who enjoys a cuppa and a bit of creativity. If you prefer something more active, there’s a community walk every Friday at 10am, open to all abilities.
Martial arts classes for both adults and children are available throughout the week as well as boxing sessions designed for all age groups. The centre also hosts LGBTQ+ activities on various days, offering a welcoming and inclusive space for all.
For those interested in team sports, 18 plus walking football takes place every Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm. Women only sessions are also available including badminton and tennis on Mondays from 5pm to 6pm and cycling every Wednesday at 10.30am.
Beat it Percussion – Sound Bath Sessions
Beat it Percussion is bringing the calming benefits of sound baths to Sandwell this May. These meditative and therapeutic experiences use instruments such as chimes and tuning forks to create sound waves that help promote deep relaxation and reduce stress. Participants often describe leaving with a clearer mind and greater emotional balance.
A session will take place at Friar Park Millennium Centre on Tuesday 7th May. There is also a session today at Thimblemill Library in Smethwick from 1pm to 2pm. These events are free for adults in Sandwell who are affected by social isolation, making them a wonderful opportunity to unwind and connect with others in a safe and supportive space.
Events at Sandwell Museums
Two exciting events are taking place at Bromwich Hall this May. On Saturday 17th May from 12pm to 3pm, the Army Engagement team will be visiting with a series of hands on activities including archery tag, Batak walls, problem solving and team building exercises. It promises to be a lively and engaging afternoon and you can book your free ticket online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/sandwell-museums-and-arts.
Also at Bromwich Hall, TAM 2025 is hosting a session with Parakeet Studio on a date to be confirmed. Running from 11am to 1pm, this event is designed for early years and draws inspiration from the medieval history of the site, offering young children a magical day of immersive play and storytelling.
Stop Loan Sharks Week 2025
From Sunday 19th May to Saturday 25th May, the national Stop Loan Sharks campaign returns with the theme “We’re here whenever you’re ready.” This powerful message aims to offer support, raise awareness and encourage people to seek help if they’re affected by illegal money lending.
To help you spread the word, a full social media toolkit and a range of promotional materials have been made available. You can download them directly from the Stop Loan Sharks website or via Google Drive.
Let’s work together to raise awareness, support our communities and celebrate all the wonderful opportunities on offer this May.
