Course Overview

Further Mathematics provides an opportunity to explore in-depth the more obscure and interesting aspects of Pure Mathematics that underpin the whole framework of Mathematics. The course is designed for any pupils with a love and curiosity of mathematics.

 

Further Pure:

 

  • – Complex numbers and matrices
  • – Roots of quadratic equations
  • – Numerical methods including sums of series and calculus
  • – Graphing functions
  • – Develops the algebra of matrices and determinants
  • – Solution of linear equations
  • – Vectors

 

Discrete: 

 

  • – Graphs and Networks
  • – Critical path Analysis
  • – Game Theory
  • – Linear Programming
  • – Abstract algebra

 

Mechanics:

 

  • – Moments
  • – Work, Energy and Power
  • – Momentum and Collisions
  • – Dimensional Analysis
  • – Circular Motion

Entry Requirements

Sixth Form Entry Criteria: 

A minimum of 5 9-5 GCSE grades, which must include a grade 5 or above in either English Language or English Literature. 

 
Special Entry Requirements:
  • GCSE Maths 7+
  • You MUST also be enrolled on the A Level Mathematics course 

 

Students must be prepared to work long hours outside lesson time to regularly review the topics covered.

Progression Route

This qualification provides a significant advantage to students taking Mathematics at university and is also a useful addition for those interested in Medical Sciences.
