If you are looking to pursue a career in Sport and Leisure Management,
Sport Development, Coaching, Fitness and PE Teaching, then BTEC National in Sport is for you. This could be a direct route into employment or a stepping stone from GCSEs and BTEC Firsts to a Sport Degree (or similar).

 

National Extended Certificate Core Units:

  • - Anatomy and Physiology
  • - Fitness Training & Programming for Health,
  • - Sport & well-being (examination)
  • - Professional Development in the Sports Industry 
  •  

Plus 1 optional unit (internally assessed); 

  • - Application of Fitness Testing

Entry Requirements

Entry Criteria: 

All students studying a Vocational Level 3 course should have at least five GCSEs at grade 9 - 4 (A* - C) in academic subjects, including English Language or English Literature at grade 4 (grade C ) and Maths at grade 4 (grade C).

 
Special Entry Requirements:
  • GCSE PE 5+ OR BTEC Sport Merit 

Students must be prepared to work long hours outside lesson time to regularly review the topics covered.

Assessment Information

Each internal unit is assessed by coursework. Most are assessed and marked by your teachers. Unit 1 is a written examination worth 80 marks and 90 minutes long. Unit 2 is a written examination worth 60 marks and 150 minutes long. Students must be aware that this is a practically based course and not a performance based course. It may involve Leadership, Coaching, Fitness Training and Fitness Testing practical assessments.

Unit 2 Written Exam 2 hours and 30 minutes 60 Marks
Unit 3 Coursework Practically based course and not a performance based course, It nay involved Leadership, Coaching, Fitness Training and Fitness testing practical assessments.

This pathway is particularly suitable for students who wish to pursue a career in Sports including: 

 

  • - Physical Education Degree (or similar)
  • - Sports & Exercise Science
  • - Sport and Leisure Management
  • - Teaching (PGCE/Degree with QTS)
  • - Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness
  • - Physiotherapy/ Sports Therapy
  • - Sport Technology
