Course Overview

A Level Business (OCR H436)

A Level Business helps students understand how organisations operate, compete and grow in today’s rapidly changing world. The course explores real business challenges and develops the skills needed to analyse problems, make decisions and evaluate strategies in a range of business contexts.

 

Students will study key areas including:

  • – Business activity and entrepreneurship

  • – Marketing and customer experience

  • – Recruitment, training and people management

  • – Operations and finance

  • – External business influences

  • – Business strategy, risk and managing change

  • – Sustainability and business ethics

Entry Requirements

Sixth Form Entry Criteria: 

A minimum of 5 9-5 GCSE grades, which must include a grade 5 or above in either English Language or English Literature. 

 
Special Entry Requirements:
  • GCSE Maths 5+
  • GCSE Business 5+ (if studied)

 

Students must be prepared to work long hours outside lesson time to regularly review the topics covered.

 

Pupils will be expected to do wider reading and research outside of lesson time prior to their lessons. They will need to keep abreast of current affairs locally and globally.

 

Extended writing will be a key focus of this A Level as the majority of marks are awarded for evaluative writing.

Paper 3- Strategy, Rick and Managing Change

Progression Route

A Level Business provides an excellent foundation for university courses and apprenticeships in Business, Finance, Marketing, Accounting and Management. Through studying finance, strategy, marketing and people management, students develop analytical and commercial skills valued by employers. The course supports progression into careers in banking, entrepreneurship, consultancy, human resources and many other business-related professions.
