Free Adapted Cycling Session

The British Cycling Foundation, powered by Parkinson’s UK, is working with Midland Mencap and Sandwell Council to offer a free adapted cycling taster session for people living with Parkinson’s. The session will take place on Thursday 24th September, 11:00am–12:00pm, at West Smethwick Park, West Park Road, B67 7JH. Adapted cycles provide a safe and enjoyable way to stay active, build confidence and experience the benefits of cycling. Spaces are limited. Community Cycling Offer

British Cycling is offering a 6–10 week community cycling programme designed to build participants’ confidence, cycling skills and independence. The programme begins with a taster session for a community group and can include Learn to Ride sessions, confidence sessions and led rides. Participants will also learn about bike maintenance, safe cycling and suitable local routes. At the end of the programme, at least two staff members or service users aged 18+ will complete a one-day Community Activator course, enabling the group to continue organising rides independently. Free Boxing Sessions

Contenders Boxing Club in West Bromwich is offering free boxing sessions for children and young people aged 9–16. Sessions take place every Tuesday during term time, from 4:00pm–5:00pm. There is no need to sign up in advance, and all sessions are free to attend. Please see the Free Boxing poster for further information.

Cancer Support

The YCA Cancer and Wellbeing Hub is offering a free weekly wellbeing and social group for people living with and beyond cancer. Sessions take place every Wednesday from 10:00am–12:00pm at the YCA, West Bromwich, with refreshments, crafts, social activities and opportunities to meet others. The second hour includes a four-week programme of gentle armchair exercise, a cancer and wellbeing walk, and guest speakers sharing useful information about local services and support. There is no charge, and the first session takes place on Wednesday 30th September. Please see the Cancer Wellbeing Hub information for further details.

Cancer Bus Dates

The Cancer Bus will be visiting local communities to provide free health checks, information about the early signs of cancer and details of available support services. It will be at Portway Family Practice, Oldbury, B69 1HE, on Thursday 24th September, focusing on Men’s Health, and at New Square, West Bromwich, B70 7PP, on Friday 25th September, focusing on Lung Cancer. Home Education Multi Sports Club

Wednesbury Cultural Hub is offering free weekly multi-sports sessions for home-educated children aged 5+, facilitated by qualified coaches from The Active Wellbeing Society. Sessions take place every Tuesday from 11:00am–12:00pm, from 8th September to 20th October 2026, at Brunswick Park, Park Road, Wednesbury, WS10 9QR. There are seven weekly sessions, with families meeting by the MUGA basketball cage. Activities will vary from week to week and may include football, basketball, tennis, rounders and other sports. As sessions take place outdoors, bad weather may result in cancellation. Parents/carers must remain with and supervise their child throughout the session, as this is not a drop-off activity. Play and Stay Sessions, Great Bridge

A calm and inclusive Play and Stay session is available for children with Special Educational Needs and their parents or carers at New Road Methodist Church, Great Bridge, DY4 7DE. Sessions have reduced numbers to provide a quieter environment, with activities tailored to each child’s individual needs. Black Country Women’s Aid Fundraising Fashion Show

A fundraising fashion show in support of Black Country Women’s Aid (BCWA) will take place on Saturday 26th September, from 2:00pm–5:00pm, at Churchills Bar, Wednesbury. Please see the Fashion Show Poster for further information about the event.

Ideal for All Multiple Sclerosis Support Group Open Day

Ideal for All is holding an open day for its friendly, face-to-face Multiple Sclerosis Support Group on Friday 25th September, from 11:00am–1:00pm, at Malthouse Gardens, 100 Oldbury Road, Smethwick, B66 1JE. The open day provides an opportunity to find out more about the support group, meet others who understand the MS journey and share experiences in a safe and supportive environment. It is also an opportunity to talk about concerns, build confidence, reduce feelings of isolation and make new connections. Sandwell Reflexions & CAMHS, October Half-Term Event

Sandwell Reflexions and Sandwell CAMHS are hosting an event during the October half term, providing an opportunity for young people and their families to find out more about the services and support available. Attendees can take part in a range of games and activities, meet members of the teams and learn more about different opportunities. There is no pressure to sign up or attend, and families are welcome to come along and find out more at their own pace.

Starting secondary school is an exciting time for both students and their families, and staying up to date with what is happening at school is an important part of the transition to Year 7.

Class Charts is Wood Green Academy’s main communication tool for students, parents and carers. Through Class Charts, you can keep up to date with important information about your child’s school life, all in one place.

Using the Class Charts website or app, parents and carers can access information including:

• School announcements and important updates

• Homework and learning information

• Attendance information

• Behaviour points and achievements

• Other important information and updates from school

All new Year 7 students will receive their Class Charts account code in school. Students should use this code to set up and access their own account.

Parent and carer account codes have been sent to the primary email address(es) provided during the digital admissions process. Please check your inbox, including your junk or spam folder, if you cannot find your account information.

If your child has any problems accessing their student Class Charts account, they should speak to their Form Tutor, who will be able to help.
